So, let’s see.
Over the course of the past few months, I started a new job, revelled at the prospect of expanding my technical horizons while producing good work and effecting positive change, was quickly shocked and disillusioned by current company practices, harshly revalued the pros and cons of my new employer while considering wildly irrational alternatives, reminded myself that one’s mindset is key to one’s happiness, reproached myself for dwelling on negative points of the new gig without giving it a proper chance and am now embracing the prospect of expanding my technical horizons while producing good work and effecting positive change.
I considered a tattoo, flirted with the notion of getting my eyebrow pierced again, priced out motorcycle lessons, googled local skydiving centres and dusted off my climbing shoes, chalk bag and harness while checking the hours of the local climbing centre.
I auditioned for a musical, but panicked and ran away upon sight of the calibre of dance background they required.
I auditioned for a straight play; they panicked and ran me away upon sight of the calibre of audition I provided.
I stormed a men’s close harmony barbershop group. No one freaked out, no one ran away, and both myself and the octogenarians are having a great time.
I would go on, but quite frankly, between getting ready for ballroom dancing tonight, my first ever Dungeons & Dragons game tomorrow and plans to tackle a local orienteering course on Sunday, I really can’t spare the time.
So yes.
I think I’m handling my 30th birthday rather well, thank you very much.
